I came across this article at gizmodo the other day and at first glance, it sounded amazing! I had never browsed my way over to the youtube music section and upon doing so, the potential was exciting. Then I actually used the service a bit.
As you can see, there ain't shit worth listening to on the front page! Okay, if you are into Lady Gaga and Chris Brown, have fun. I, however, am not. You can browse by section, sure -- but when the one "rock" section has The Black Eyes Peas, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez at the top, something is really wrong.
But! But the potential is still there. This could be the coolest thing for music videos since MTV first debuted more than two decades ago (back when it was actually Music Television). If there were more catagories that were more refined... If you could customize automatically generating playlist or follow other "VJs" lists... If there was a well curated 'Introducing new artists' section' and good indie sections... If you could "hide" artists you don't care to watch and favorite those you love... Then! Then all the inferstructure they have put in this could become an amazing way to consume music.
Set your playlist to go through the youtube app on a PS3 or computer and you really have something! Great for parties, background when hanging out, finding new music and revisiting old favorites. Come on youtube (Google) and get this thing going!
